Poor Eric came home to see his brother, only to find (Zap! Pow! Dams burst! Bombs go off! Wasps fry: ttssss!) he’s got a sister. Iain Banks, from The Wasp Factory (thanks, theminornotes)

Naomi Wolf: ‘Neural wiring explained vaginal v clitoral orgasms. Not culture. Not Freud’
When the feminist writer noticed that sex had become less enjoyable, it sent her on an unexpected journey of discovery of not only her own body but of how sexist language can wreck women’s lives

So, like, my soul is in my vagina, apparently.

Daily chart: who’s arming the developing world? Arms deliveries to developing countries last year were the highest since 2004, totalling $28 billion, or around 60% of global sales. America and Russia, the world’s leading arms suppliers, accounted for around two-thirds of the deliveries.

I don’t like this expression “First World problems.” It is false and it is condescending. Yes, Nigerians struggle with floods or infant mortality. But these same Nigerians also deal with mundane and seemingly luxurious hassles. Connectivity issues on your BlackBerry, cost of car repair, how to sync your iPad, what brand of noodles to buy: Third World problems. All the silly stuff of life doesn’t disappear just because you’re black and live in a poorer country. People in the richer nations need a more robust sense of the lives being lived in the darker nations. Here’s a First World problem: the inability to see that others are as fully complex and as keen on technology and pleasure as you are. What’s Wrong with First World Problems” (via grrrlstudies)

Sedmikrásky, Věra Chytilová (1966)

This film is an imperfect masterpiece of the Czech New Wave which could best be described as a feminist, psychedelic surreal Eastern European answer to Howard Hawks ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’. Two girls, both named Marie, decide that since the world is spoiled they will be spoiled as well; accordingly they embark on a series of destructive pranks in which they consume and destroy the world about them. Chytilová captures a sense of unadulterated feminine energy and an insane, dadaist, and anarchist attack on establishment and those who oppose it. There is little wonder to why the Czech government had this film banned.

Said to be one of the most exhilarating stylistic and psychedelic eruptions of the ’60s thanks to the eye-popping cinematography and editing of Jaroslav Kucera and Miroslav Hájek, who respectively, present a dazzling array of color, super-quick cutting, and strong close-ups that envelop the viewer in the detail of the moment.

Hopefully this clip I made inspires you to check it out.
